Valentino Rossi doesn’t believe Marc Marquez is cruising towards a historic maiden MotoGP world title after the rookie sensation scorched to a third win on American soil in 2013 yesterday (Sunday).
Victories at the Circuit of the Americas and Laguna Seca earlier this season were followed up by a commanding success at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway to move Marquez 21-points clear of Repsol Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa in the title hunt.
Marquez has now won the last three races while Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo have bravely soldiered on with damaged left collarbones to keep their title hopes on track.
Lorenzo trails Marquez by 35-points with eight races remaining though once again in Indianapolis he was head and shoulders above any other Yamaha rider.
Lorenzo was only 5.7s behind Marquez after he suffered a sudden loss of rear grip in the final five laps to surrender second place to Pedrosa.
Rossi and Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider Cal Crutchlow were almost 15 seconds further back and assessing the current title battle, Rossi said: "Marquez was very impressive the whole weekend. For the championship he has won three races in a row, so I take my hat off to him. But Jorge made a fantastic job. He tried very hard and rode like a devil. We know this track is difficult for Yamaha, so I don't think the championship is finished yet."
